About

I’m an American writer interested in art, culture, history, and intersections—between the popular and the secretive, the real and the imaginary, the monumental and the microscopic. I enjoy investigating manifestations of private passions in the public realm, using mainly my intuition and the available records.

Following this line of inquiry, I have written many articles, reviews, and essays both in print and online, and two books, Magic Circles: The Beatles in Dream and History (2003) and The Man Who Saw a Ghost: The Life and Work of Henry Fonda (2012).

I live with my wife and our three cats in south-central Pennsylvania, where I also work as an archivist.
